My Big Competition
By Sarah Holesworth

Competitions are big events that a figure skater has to compete in to qualify for going to the nationals, the World Games and the Canada games. You have to work hard.

I was in a big competition myself a month ago. We practiced two to four days a week to get the spot to go to the Canada Games and I won that spot! The judges were looking for a male and female figure skater from Special Olympics to go to the Canada games in Bathurst, N.B. to compete.

To get that spot you had to impress the judges by skating your program and doing your necessary elements for your compulsories. For the compulsories you had to do inside and outside edges, skate backwards and glide on one foot.

You had to skate to your program to the best of your ability and make sure you put your heart into it all the way.
