HCLN celebrates Adult Learners’ Week and National Volunteer Week!

April 12 – 19th was a busy one, with Volunteer Appreciationparties happening at all program locations. A big thank you to the HCLN Board and wonderful literacy volunteers who help out with many activities but especially those who donate their time each week as tutors. We couldn’t do it without you! Of particular mention is volunteer Margaret Cameron who is an HCLN Board Member and volunteers as a literacy tutor at the Halifax North Library. Margaret received a well-deserved Halifax Volunteer Award from Mayor Mike Savage on April 8th.

In addition to celebrating our volunteers, HCLN also took part in the Adult Learners’ Week and attended the Literacy Nova Scotia event on April 17th. Several HCLN learners entered the writing contest Literacy Changes Lives. The winners were given a tour of Province House and shared their wonderful and inspiring stories with us at the prize-giving ceremony. You can read all the stories here.

Well done everyone!
